GMA-BUSH AT THE UN: BRIEF BUT MEANINGFUL MEETING BETWEEN LEADERS
14 September 2005, United Nations, New York – Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo today said that among the leaders President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo had a chance to meet with at the sidelines of today’s United Nations Security Council Summit was US President George W. Bush. Secretary Romulo also said that the two leaders warmly renewed their friendship and their commitment to further strengthening ties between the Philippines and the United States.
“Gathered within the Chambers of the Security Council were the top leaders of the world who were there to participate in the Security Council Summit chaired by the President,” Secretary Romulo said.
“On the sidelines of the Security Council Summit and as Chair of the Summit meeting, the President was able to meet and briefly exchange views with other world leaders, particularly on the agenda of the Security Council Summit,” Secretary Romulo explained.
The Secretary said that among the leaders President Arroyo met was President George W. Bush.
“President Arroyo and President
Bush had a brief but meaningful exchange, a warm and cordial meeting between
leaders,” the Secretary said, adding “with each conveying to the other
best wishes and hopes of meeting again to discuss bilateral relations and
other issues of mutual concern”. END
