PHILIPPINE EMBASSY, WASHINGTON REPORTS MANCAO POSTS BAIL, IS IN GOOD HEALTH

25 April 2006 – Ambassador Albert F. del Rosario of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, USA reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that former Philippine National Police Senior Superintendent Cesar Mancao has been released from the Miami Federal Detention Center after posting a cash bond of US$75,000, and is now in his (Mancao’s) residence.

Ambassador del Rosario stated that Philippine Honorary Consul General in Miami Angelo S. Macatangay, Jr., went to the Miami Federal Detention Center on 19 April 2006 to visit Mancao, but the desk officer there told him that Mancao had been released.

Honorary Consul General Macatangay then called the Mancao residence later in the evening and learned from Mancao’s wife that the former PNP officer was at “home and in good health.”  Mrs. Mancao thanked the Honorary Consul General for his concern and assistance, and requested that their wish for privacy be respected.

The Honorary Consul General also reported to Ambassador del Rosario that prior to Mancao’s release, his lawyer informed him that “they would post a cash bail bond of US$75,000 with a guarantee that the amount would be payable should Mancao take flight.  An additional US$500,000 equity was also imposed as part of the bail agreement.”  END
