TAIKO! TAMBOL! DRUMBEATS HERALD START OF RP-JAPAN FRIENDSHIP YEAR CELEBRATIONS

12 January 2006 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo joins Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” H. Durano (1st L), Japanese Senior Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasuhisa Shiozaki (2nd R), and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Ryuichiro Yamazaki (1st R) in sounding the Japanese “taiko” (drum) to herald the start of the “Taiko! Tambol!” concert at the CCP on 11 January 2006, the first official event celebrating the Philippines-Japan Friendship Year.  In his remarks at the concert, Secretary Romulo said that the activities being organized in the Philippines and Japan for the Friendship Year “will spark greater awareness and deeper understanding of our complementary strengths and of the values that unite our countries and peoples.”  (Benjamin Remo)
