PHILIPPINE EMBASSY, RIYADH
REMINDS OFWS ON CONSEQUENCES OF SIGNING GUARANTEES
9 January 2006 – The Philippine
Embassy in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reminds Overseas Filipino
Workers (OFWs) to be prepared to meet their obligations in guarantees they
sign for friends or relatives.
Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla
said the Embassy issues this reminder following cases where those who signed
guarantees are now faced with complying with the conditions of their action.
The Embassy cited the case
of one hospital worker who guaranteed for the treatment of one OFW whose
bills reached beyond the guarantor’s capability to pay.
Another case involved four hospital workers who guaranteed for their fellow
worker who had to leave for the Philippines to attend the burial of her
father. Since the worker did not return, the hospital
management is now collecting on the guarantee of the four workers. .
Ambassador Guinomla requests
OFWs in the Kingdom to scrutinize closely the guarantee documents and the
person being guaranteed to avoid any unintended financial burdens. END
