DFA REITERATES WARNING ON TEXT SCAMS 

18 July 2006 – The Department of Foreign Affairs reiterates the warning to OFWs on text scams circulating in Australia informing the victim through text message that he/she won $40,000 cash.

The Department issued another warning after it received a report from the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, which stated that two Filipinos narrated their experiences through letter/email about the text message they received containing the following note:           

“Congrats! Your roaming number was very lucky to claim  $40,000 from Central Bank Philippines. Call me right now.   Secretary Nympha Salazar – +639215230271. This is an exclusive for OCWs and OFWs.”

The Consulate General has already issued a press release warning Filipinos in Australia about the scam and requesting that any information on this scam be reported to the:
