foreign minister to visit rp for commemoration
of 50th anniversary of the normalization of rp-japan diplomatic
relations

July 2006 — The Department of Foreign Affairs announced that Japanese Foreign
Minister will visit the Philippines from 22 to 24 July 2006 to join the
Philippine commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of the
Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Japan, as well
as meet with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo to discuss bilateral
issues.
Foreign
Affairs Assistant Secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs Romeo L. Manalo said,
“Secretary Romulo and Minister Aso will sign and exchange Notes on two grants
for the project ‘Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)’ of the
Special Committee on Scholarship of the National Economic and Development
Authority (NEDA) under the Grant-Aid Program of the Government of Japan.
The
grants, amounting to ¥382 million (PhP170 million), will cover the 2nd
batch of 20 JDS fellows, for the period 31 March 2006 to 31 March 2007, and the
5th year of the program’s implementation covering a multi-year
period from 31 March 2007 to 31 March 2010.”
Foreign
Minister Aso will also attend a commemorative ceremony that includes the
unveiling of the Philippines-Japan Commemorative Stamp and a traditional
Japanese noh performance at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC
Plaza in Makati.
Secretary and Madame Romulo will also be hosting a dinner in honor of Minister and Madame Aso. END
