FIVE FILIPINO CREW MEMBERS OF UN CARGO PLANE ARE
UNHURT AFTER CRASH LANDING IN TANZANIA

25 July 2006 – The Philippine Embassy in Kenya reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the five Filipino crewmembers of a UN cargo plane are unhurt after their plane crash landed on Wednesday, 12 July 2006, at the Kigoma Airport in Tanzania, near the capital Dar-es-Salaam. The airplane, a Lockheed 382, was owned by TransAfric Ltd., and was chartered by the UN for aid flights into the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Embassy Officer-in-Charge Aurelio B. Bea said “all five Filipino crew members were unhurt in the accident, and are safe.”  However, they lost all their documents when the airplane caught fire upon landing. The Filipinos are:

1.    Capt Arturo T. Santos;

2.    F/O Rene Amogawin;

3.    F/E Rolando Rabor;

4.    L/M Rodrigo Legara; and

5.    G/E Cris Dubalan.

OIC Bea said the Embassy is extending all the assistance to the Filipinos for the replacement of their passports.

OIC Bea added that there are a number of Filipino pilots and crew men who work for air companies such as TransAfric flying on aid or mercy missions to all parts of Africa as well as in the delivery of the necessary consular services to Filipinos in Kenya. END
