PHILIPPINE EMBASSY AND COMMUNITY IN BELGIUM PREPARE FOR “PIKNIKANG BAYAN”
TO COINCIDE WITH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

31 May 2006 -  Charge D' Affaires, a.i. Ms. Marichu Mauro (4TH, L) of the Philippine Embassy in Belgium leads the Embassy staff in meeting officials of the city of Deinze on the preparations for the Piknikang Bayan to be held at Brielpoort Stadium in Deinze to coincide with the celebration of the 108th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.  Philippine Honorary Consul General Peter Van Bogaert (2nd, L) gave a profile of the Philippines in the Dutch language during a press conference organized by the city of Deinze at the Stadhuis Deinze (Deinze City Hall) for the forthcoming Piknikang Bayan. Among the reporters who attended the press conference were Mr. John De Vlieger of Het Nieuwsblad, Het Volk, De Gazet Van Deinze; Ms. Gaeten Regniers of Het Laatste Nieuws; Mr. Peter De Maertelaere of Passe­partout, Local Radio Tequila; and Mr. Koen Ghyselinck, Local Radio Canteclaer.    The press conference also discussed the  Classroom Galing sa Mamamayang Pilipino (CGMA) Project.   Piknikang Bayan 2006, which is being organized by Mrs. Minabelle Siason-Vanantwerpen and Mr. Arsenio Reyes, is expected to raise funds for the donation of one classroom to the Philippines.  CDA Mauro was assisted during the meeting by Information Officer Faith Bautista, Cultural Officer Gerlje Aguac, Protocol Officer Ramoncito Mendoza and Secretary to the Ambassador Girlie Ayuste.
