FILIPINIANA-INSPIRED CHRISTMAS TREE SET UP IN GUAM AS CONSULATE PARTICIPATES IN CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
29 November 2006 — Philippine Consul General in Guam Teresita L. Mendiola reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the officers and staff of the Consulate set up a Filipiniana-inspired Christmas tree at the Skinner Plaza in Guam on 25 November 2006 as part of the Consulate's participation in the “2006 Christmas Around the World Festival” organized by the Guam Chamber of Commerce.
“Wearing their most comfortable outdoor outfit and equipped with Christmas decorations and carpentry tools, the Consulate personnel trooped to the Skinner Plaza a day before, the festival, and braved the sun and occasional rain showers as they decorated the Christmas tree assigned to the Philippine Consulate,” Consul General Mendiola said.
Measuring 12 feet high, the Christmas tree was adorned with a red parol on top and decked with countless beige-colored and star-shaped objects of made of bamboo and shell. Cherub-shaped ornaments made of sinamai were also scattered across all sides of the tree, creating a magnificent look as these objects blended with the other gold-colored adornments of different shapes and sizes. The greeting “Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon” written on a piece of plywood was also placed at the base of the tree. The picture of some Consulate staff decorating the Filipiniana-inspired Christmas tree made it to the front page of the Pacific Daily News the following day.
Consulate
personnel and their dependents also joined other participants from Guam's
schools, offices and foreign establishments during the rain-filled Christmas
festival on 25 November. Wearing Filipiniana dress, Consulate officers and staff
participated in the parade of students and some company representatives who were
decked out in different costumes of peoples around the world.
