PHILIPPINE EMBASSY, PRETORIA ALL SET FOR OAV IN SOUTH AFRICA

24 April 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to South Africa Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy was all set for the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) following the conduct of an echo-training for Embassy personnel serving as elections officers for the South African countries during the 2007 Philippine National Elections on 12 April 2007.

The Embassy personnel, who were deputized by the Commission on Elections as election officers, also took their respective oaths.

Throughout the OAV period, from 14 April 2007 to 3:00 P.M. (Philippine time) on 14 May 2007, members of the Special Ballot Reception and Custody Group (SBRCG) would report to the Embassy on Saturdays and Sundays to ensure the timely updating of daily election reports to the OAV Secretariat.

Ambassador Reyes said, “Since 2006, we at the Embassy, including Consul-General Renato Villapando, have tirelessly encouraged all Filipinos from the nine countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction in Southern Africa , to register for the absentee voting and to mail their ballots promptly.”

The Philippines Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa is one of the Foreign Service Posts which conduct voting by mail. END
