August 2007 - Rubianca Angelica H. Benavidez, A Filipino Form 5 student, won
first prize in the “Battle of Champions” held at the
PDS
Secondary School
in Brunei Darussalam on 07 August 2007. A
consistent honor student who always topped her class for several years, Bianca,
as she is fondly called, bested six other participants in the search for PDS
School Intellectual Wizards at the secondary level.
Easy,
Average and Difficult Questions covering English, Mathematics, Science and other
subjects were fielded and Bianca who emerged as champion, garnered a total of
135 points while the first and second runners-up got 115 points and 85 points,
respectively.
In
July 2006, Bianca also won the first prize in a nationwide contest held by the
Brunei Association of Science Education (BASE) Young Scientist Awards when she
wrote on the Conservation of the Earth through Science and Technology.
Her award winning essay impressed
Brunei
’s senior education officials and became a source of pride for
PDS
School
which has always encouraged its students to excel and come up with significant
contributions in the field of science. END
