STATEMENT
OF
SECRETARY ALBERTO G. ROMULO
ON THE 2ND
INTER-KOREAN
SUMMIT
ON 28-30 AUGUST 2007
The
Philippines
expresses its full support for the forthcoming
Summit
between the
Republic
of
Korea
and the Democratic People's
Republic
of
Korea
in
Pyongyang
from 28 to 30 August 2007.
As
a regional stakeholder and a member of the community of nations, the
Philippines
has consistently advocated a peaceful, meaningful, and just resolution to
security concerns within the
Korean
Peninsula
.
In
the recently concluded ASEAN Ministerial Meeting/Post-Ministerial
Conferences/ASEAN Regional Forum, the
Philippines
called on all nations of the Six-Party Talks to create favorable conditions for
denuclearizing the peninsula and normalizing relations.
With
the scheduled
Summit
, the
Philippines
is most optimistic that these objectives will soon be achieved, thereby
ensuring durable and lasting regional peace, prosperity, and stability.
The
Philippines
believes it is only through principled, constructive and friendly dialogue
between and among the key regional players that the international community will
see more positive and tangible results in the Six-Party Talks process.
The
Philippines reiterates its unwavering support for the upcoming Summit, and looks
forward to a successful conclusion that will pave the way for the early
realization of the objectives of the 13 February 2007 Denuclearization Action
Plan, the 19 September 2005 Joint Declaration, and all relevant UN Security
Council Resolutions.
