21 August 2007 – Philippine Consul General to Toronto Alejandro B. Mosquera reported to the Department that color, pageantry, exotic Filipino cuisine, Philippine products, music and the famed Filipino hospitality took center stage at Toronto’s popular Harbourfront Center and the Metro Toronto Convention Center from 17 to 19 August 2007 as Filipino-Canadians in the Greater Toronto Area celebrated and shared with the community-at-large the Filipino culture and heritage.

“Filipinos Making Waves” and “Mabuhay Philippines Festival” were two simultaneous summer festivals in Toronto organized by the Philippine Arts and Cultural Experience and the Philippine Independence Day Council, respectively, as the Filipino community’s contribution to the Toronto Summer Festival.  “Making Waves” festival featured a fluvial regatta at Ontario Lake , board walk parade , Ati-atihan, and live music by Filipino artists Boy Katindig, Angelo Pizzaro, Lirio Vital and Mon Torralba.  Filipino movies, visual arts, and youth programs were also showcased.

“Mabuhay Festival” showcased cultural pageantry, internationally renowned Filipino artists as well as Filipino-Canadian talents, and 100 booths featuring Filipino products and services.  A portion of the proceeds of the Festival was donated to the Gawad Kalinga project in the Philippines .

The officers and staff of the Consulate General were joined by the Filipino-Canadian community, invited Canadian officials and the mainstream public at the various activities of the three-day event.  The twin festivals demonstrated the best and finest of the Filipino people.  END
