AMBASSADOR GUINOMLA WELCOMES DND DELEGATION  

21 August 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim A Guinomla welcomed and assisted a delegation from the Department of National Defense which came to Ankara from 15 to 19 July 2007 to conduct the Post-qualification of the Turkish company that seeks to undertake the upgrade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) inventory of M113 Armored Personnel Carrier/Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle under the AFP Modernization Program.  

The Turkish supplier is FNSS Defense Systems, a leading arms manufacturer and supplier of light-medium armored vehicles to the Turkish military and several armies in the region.  FNSS also supplier over 100 armored vehicles to the Malaysian armed forces.  

The delegation was composed of Assistant Secretary Roberto Nuqui of the DND Bids and Awards Committee, Brigadier General Jerry Jalandoni, Attorney Ernesto Matibag, Major Noli Anquillano and Capatain Omar Orozco.  

During their visit, the Ambassador tendered a dinner in their honor and gave them a briefing on RP-Turkey relations at the Embassy.  

The Embassy sees that the acquisition of military equipment from Turkey will not only boost the AFP capabilities but further enhance RP-Turkey ties.  In this regard, Ambassador Guinomla also discussed with the DND delegation the possibility of entering into defense cooperation, security and other similar agreements with Turkey .
