AMBASSADOR GUINOMLA INDUCTS MR. ENDER YORGANCILAR AS NEW PHILIPPINE HONORARY CONSUL IN IZMIR , TURKEY  

21 August 2007—Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim A. Guinomla reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that he inducted Mr. Ender Yorgancilar last 18 July as the first Honorary Consul for the newly-established Philippine Honorary Consulate in Izmir , Turkey . The approval to open another honorary consular post in Turkey and with Yorgancilar as its first Consul was approved by the Turkish Ministry earlier this year. The new Consulate in Izmir is the third such post in Turkey following those in Istanbul and Mersin on the Mediterranean coast. Also present at the induction rite was Ms. Ece Guler, a Manager of one of the companies owned by the new Honorary Consul, who will also serve as an assistant at the Consulate.  

In simple ceremonies, Ambassador Guinomla outlined to Consul Yorgancilar the major projects of the Embassy in promoting trade and economic relations between the Philippines and Turkey and how the new Consul could play a key role in these efforts. This was followed by a briefing on consular functions and operations conducted by the Embassy staff. Ambassador Guinomla also hosted a luncheon at the Embassy to mark the occasion.  

Izmir is Turkey 's third largest city and is a key port along the country’s Aegean coast. Along with Izmir , the new consulate's jurisdiction includes six other provinces in the Aegean region, comprising almost 80,000 square kilometers or roughly 10% of the total Turkish land area. The region accounts for 16% of Turkey 's GDP, 19% of its exports and 11% of industrial production. It is rich in natural resources and agricultural products and 80% of cultured fishery in Turkey .  

Consul Yorgancilar is President of the Board of Izeltas, Turkey 's leading company in the machine tools industry. He owns one of Turkey 's largest glass manufacturing companies. He is also the Chairman of the Assembly of the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry.
