ISRAEL RECOGNIZES PHILIPPINES AT THE INAUGURATION OF NATION’S LEADERS PARK

7 December 2007– Israel opened the Nation’s Leaders Park in Rishon LeZion, Israel (top left photo) , last 29 November where the Philippine Flag is prominently displayed in recognition of the Philippines’ support, along with 32 other countries, for United Nation Resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine that led to the establishment of the State of Israel in November 1947. The Philippines was the only Asian country that supported the Resolution.  The four hectare park is a tribute to Israel’s leaders in celebration of the 60th foundation of the State of Israel.  The Philippine flag is flown in the “Boulevard of Flags” along the highway leading to  the City of Rishon LeZion.  The Nations Gate (top right photo) serves as the entrance to the park where the flags of the 33 countries are also engraved. The park also features the busts of six Israeli leaders (bottom photo) namely (L to R) Menachem Begin, Benjamin Zeev Herzl, Yitzhak Rabin, David Ben Gurion, Haim Weizman, and Zeev Jabotinsky.  Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the park.  Chargé d’Affaires Asuque represented the Philippines during the opening ceremony that was attended by the Ambassadors of the 33 nations that were honored by the Municipality of Rishon LeZion.
