PHILIPPINE EMBASSY ATTENDS MIGRANT WORKERS’ DAY IN      TEL AVIV  

 

 

27 December 2007 - The Philippine Embassy and POLO in Tel Aviv (top left photo) attended Israel’s Migrant Workers’ Day, which was held at the Tel Aviv Cinemateque on 22 December 2007.  Chargé d’Affaires and Consul General Gilberto G.B. Asuque and Labor Attache Merriam Cuasay (far left, top right photo) led the  Embassy officers and staff in the event, which was participated by various government agencies and NGOs.  Israel has approximately 120,000 foreign workers including some 31,000 OFWs, who comprise the largest group.  Government agencies and NGOs distributed books, brochures and other informative documents on Israeli laws concerning foreign workers’ rights.  Some booths sold delicacies from different countries, including the “adobo and maja blanca” from the Philippines.  Posters and photos of migrant workers were also displayed in the lobby.  Earlier, the Embassy personnel attended seminars on foreign workers’ rights held at the Embassy in coordination with officials from the Israeli government agencies and NGOs as part of the events to celebrate Migrant Workers’ Day in Israel.
