ACTIVITIES FOR OFW’S IN OMAN

 

17 December 2007 – The Philippine Embassy in Muscat reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that a series of activities  ( OFW Family Day, DOLE Anniversary celebration and a Seminar on Embassy Programs and Services), were held for OFW’s in Oman under the auspices of POLO.  Charge d’Affaires (CDA) Macarthur Corsino, Labor Attache Romeo Young and OWWA Welfare Officer Samuel Madrid, played key roles for the success of the following events.

On 07 December 2007, after a brief program with presentations by the CDA, Labor Attache, and the OWWA Welfare Officer, free overseas calls to the Philippines and other parts of the globe were offered. Calls were limited to a maximum of six minutes per person and between 0900 HRS. to 1500 HRS. Free calls via cellphones were through the courtesy of the Nawras company in Oman. The inaugural call was made by the CDA to DFA Undersecretary Esteban Conejos. Messrs. Young and Madrid also made similar calls.

On 10 December 2007, a seminar-dialogue on OMAN Labor Law concerning the  labor rights of workers, domestic helpers, and the Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN), consular and cultural programs, were held in conjunction with the celebration of International Human Rights Day. Briefings were given by the CDA, Labor Attache and OWWA Welfare Officer, Mr. Suhod Sinsuat of the Embassy’s ATN, Mr. Agerico de Jesus of POLO, and Sister Janette Daang of the Church Parish Council, an outreach program of counseling and assisting distressed OFW’s. Embassy staff composed of Cultural Officer Omar Pangarungan, Grace Sia, Lorna Mojica, Eden Laforteza, Victorina Macasalong, Norma Bartolome, and Froilan Salvador lend assistance. END
