hUNGARIAN pAINTER EXHIBITS WORK SHOWING  SCENERY OF CEBU AND BOHOL

22 February 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to Hungary Alejandro D. del Rosario reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Hungarian artist Sarolta Kontra has recently opened an exhibition entitled “Yes, Paradise Does Exist,” featuring her watercolors showing sceneries of Cebu and Bohol.

Ambassador del Rosario said that the exhibit consisted of 18 watercolors mostly about the tropical flora of Cebu and Bohol . The collection also included a painting of Bohol’s endangered wide-eyed tarsier, the Loboc River , an old church and children of Cebu .

“Drawing her inspiration from her two-week stay in Bohol and Cebu , Ms. Kontra produced watercolors in a style characterized by simplicity that is almost child-like.   Her use of pale, pastel colors gave a refreshing vision of the rich flora of Bohol and underwater scenes of fish and corals in Cebu ,” the Ambassador stated.

Her watercolors, mostly floral still-lifes and water scenes, reflect her deep appreciation of nature and her strong impression of these provinces.

Her paintings guide the viewer through a colorful tour of Bohol and Cebu , in which she hopes the viewer would find his or her "own piece of paradise in these paintings.”

Ambassador del Rosario, who was the special guest on opening day, described the Sarolta Kontra exhibit as a boost to Philippine tourism, remarking that though Cebu and Bohol are only two of our 7,107 islands, Hungarians should come and experience the exhilarating allure of the others.  END
