Philippine Culture Day in Sweden Celebrates  National Arts Month  

22 February 2007 – Philippine Chargé d’Affaires in Sweden Marian Jocelyn Tirol-Ignacio reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy, in cooperation with the Swedish-Filipino Friendship Association in Jönköpping, celebrated Philippine Culture Day 2007 on 3 February 2007 at the Jönköpping State Library.  

The event is part of the year-­long celebration of 60 years of Philippine-Sweden Diplomatic Relations in 2007 and the celebration in February 2007 of Philippine National Arts Month.  

Culture Day activities included a film showing on Philippine tourism and a Philippine food tasting activity featuring the bistek. Also presented were songs and dances from the Philippines , including the Bagobo dance, Banga, Muslim dance, Matudnila, Pandango sa Ilaw, Kuratsa, Sayaw sa Payong, Filippiniana, Malong Dance, Cariñosa and Kailangan kita. Books on the Philippines and books written in Filipino were also on display. Philippine tourism brochures were distributed to the Swedish public.  

The Head of the Department of Culture of the Jönköpping State Library, Mr. Claes Rydberg, remarked on the many similarities found between Philippine and Swedish culture and commended the Swedish-Filipino Friendship Association and the Embassy for their successful efforts in showcasing Philippine culture in Jönköpping.
