PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL, HONG KONG HOLDS “BAYAN KO” ART EXHIBIT  

23 February 2007 – Consul and Acting Head of Post Kira Christianne R. Danganan of the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR, reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Consulate has been holding an art exhibition “Bayan ko” (My Country) from 22 February to 19 April 2007 in the Consulate premises by Hong Kong-based Filipino artist Noel de Guzman in celebration of the National Arts Month in February.  

Aiming to draw Filipinos in Hong Kong , the art exhibition comprises of 18 patriotic paintings of De Guzman focusing on scribbles and calligraphy promoting unity and love of country.  

After years of observing his homeland struggle for peace, harmony and progress, the artist, who has been living in Hong Kong for 13 years, was motivated to create art pieces that he hopes will inspire fellow Filipinos, promote love of family, and express his gratitude to his country.  

Messages such as "Bayan muna" (Country first), "Bangon Pilipinas" (Rise Philippines ), and "Bayanihan” (community spirit) leap out from his canvas. In some of the pieces, he juxtaposed words with Philippine iconic images such as the flag, map, jeepney, nipa hut and others.  

The exhibition is a deviation from his critically and commercially successful style of finger painting. De Guzman's tactile works have been exhibited in Manila , Hong Kong , Singapore , Kuala Lumpur , Melbourne , Dubai and Washington , D.C.
