HOLDS WINTER 10-PIN
BOWLING TOURNAMENT FOR DIPLOMATIC CORPS

February 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to
Turkey
Bahnarim A. Guinomla reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the
Embassy organized the 1st Winter Diplomatic 10-pin Bowling Tournament
on 17 February 2007 at the Bilkent Rollhouse for the Diplomatic Corps and
members of the local media. The Embassy won the championship and Men’s Singles
event.
With the cold Turkish winter,
restricted mobility and limited opportunities for recreational activities, the
Embassy saw the chance to foster camaraderie and friendship among the members of
the diplomatic corps through a bowling tournament.
The 3-game series bowling
tournament was participated in by twelve teams, comprising of 45 male and female
bowlers from the ASEAN resident missions in
Ankara
.
Among those who joined the
one-day tournament were the Ambassadors and their respective teams from the
Philippines
,
Indonesia
,
Thailand
, and
Vietnam
, and the Counselor and Army and Naval Attachés of Malaysia. The Israeli
Ambassador and military attaché and their spouses led the Israeli team.
The
Ambassadors of the
United Arab Emirates
,
Bulgaria
,
Latvia
,
Sudan
and the Counselor of the
Czech
Republic
competed in a team led by Ms. Oznur Cevik, Editor of the Social and Diplomatic
page of The New Anatolian,
Turkey
's largest independent English-language newspaper.
The US Embassy had one
participant and the Iraqi and Algerian ambassadors were present to watch the
games. END
