January 2007 —
Philippine Ambassador to South Africa Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. has issued an
advisory to manpower services companies in the Philippines warning them of the
inaccurate and misleading statement regarding the Embassy’s purported
endorsement of Don & McGrath Associate, a company alleged based in Côte
d’Ivoire in western Africa.
In
a report to the Department, Ambassador Reyes said that Don & McGrath
Associate opens its e-mails to Philippine manpower services companies with:
“We
are directed by your country Embassy in South Africa through his Excellence
Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes (Jnr) to get you informed in respect of the
manpower/recruitment agency based in Côte d’Ivoire.”
Ambassador
Reyes said that the statement is inaccurate and misleading as the Embassy has no
record of directing the company to inform Philippine firms of such manpower
recruitment in Côte d’Ivoire.
The
Ambassador added that he has also informed Philippine companies seeking
clarification of the legitimacy of Don & McGrath Associate to coordinate
with the Philippine Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, which has jurisdiction over Côte
d’Ivoire. END
