“CONSULATE
ON WHEELS” HELD IN FRESNO, CALIFORNIA
16
January 2007 – Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Maria Rowena Mendoza
Sanchez reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that consular outreach
services dubbed as “Consulate on Wheels” were conducted on 6 January 2007 in
Fresno, some 200 miles from San Francisco.
“More
than 200 Filipino and Filipino-American residents in Fresno and the nearby areas
availed of consular services at the Travelodge in Fresno,” Consul General
Sanchez said. “The consular team processed applications for dual citizenship,
passports, visa, legal/notarial and civil registry services. The San Francisco
team also attended to queries on assistance to Filipino nationals,” she added.
As
the outreach to Fresno provided opportunities to promote Philippine tourism, a
number of locals and Filipino-Americans signified their interest to join the 3rd
Ambassadors/Consuls General Tour in July 2007.
With
the success of the consular outreach to Fresno, the Filipino-American community
leaders in Fresno and the Bayanihan
Association of America (Samahang Bayanihan) requested the
conduct of another consular outreach service in Fresno after six months.
Vice
Consul Arvic V. Arevalo led the consular outreach team to Fresno, which included
representatives from the Philippine Trade and Investment Center and the Office
of the Tourism Representative. The consular team was met in Fresno by the
officers and members of Samahang Bayanihan
and by Fresno Unified School District Board of Education Member Valerie F.
Davis.
The outreach mission, which is the first outreach mission for 2007, was held with the assistance of the Samahang Bayanihan. END
