January 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Isaias F. Begonia reported to
the Department of Foreign Affairs that the staff of Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha
donated QR16,950 (US$4,640) raised from the hotel’s “One Hand, One Heart for
Christmas” fund-raising campaign for the victims of Typhoon ‘Reming’
(International name ‘Durian’).
Ambassador
Begonia received on behalf of the beneficiaries a ceremonial check from the
hotel’s General Manager during its annual staff party on 21 January 2007.

Begonia thanked the management and staff of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for such
genuine gesture, saying, “This will go a long way to alleviate the suffering
of the victims of Typhoon ’Reming,’ who are still trying to recover from the
disaster.”
The
“One Hand, One Heart for Christmas” is the hotel’s fund-raising campaign
organized annually to help victims of natural disasters or human tragedies
around the world. The hotel’s
staff decided to donate the proceeds of the campaign to typhoon victims in the
Philippines.
The
donation was also featured in an article entitled “Hotel staff offer a helping
hand” in the 25 January 2007 issue of the Gulf-Times.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha has over 500 employees from more than 10 countries, with around 80 Filipino employees of the hotel, making up the largest expatriate community in the establishment. END
