RITZ-CARLTON HOTEL, DOHA DONATES US$4,640 FOR VICTIMS OF TYPHOON ‘REMING’

30 January 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Isaias F. Begonia reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the staff of Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha donated QR16,950 (US$4,640) raised from the hotel’s “One Hand, One Heart for Christmas” fund-raising campaign for the victims of Typhoon ‘Reming’ (International name ‘Durian’).

Ambassador Begonia received on behalf of the beneficiaries a ceremonial check from the hotel’s General Manager during its annual staff party on 21 January 2007.

Ambassador Begonia thanked the management and staff of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for such genuine gesture, saying, “This will go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the victims of Typhoon ’Reming,’ who are still trying to recover from the disaster.”

The “One Hand, One Heart for Christmas” is the hotel’s fund-raising campaign organized annually to help victims of natural disasters or human tragedies around the world.  The hotel’s staff decided to donate the proceeds of the campaign to typhoon victims in the Philippines.

The donation was also featured in an article entitled “Hotel staff offer a helping hand” in the 25 January 2007 issue of the Gulf-Times.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha has over 500 employees from more than 10 countries, with around 80 Filipino employees of the hotel, making up the largest expatriate community in the establishment.  END
