17 July 2007 — Philippine Ambassador to Hungary
Alejandro D. del Rosario reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the
Embassy in
Budapest
celebrated the 109th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine
Independence on 10 June 2007 at the Embassy grounds.
Members of the Filipino community in
Hungary
, along with some Hungarian employers and friends, attended the whole-day
affair. The event started with a
flag-raising ceremony led by the Ambassador, accompanied by the singing of the
Philippine National Anthem. Ambassador
del Rosario and Consul General Armando L. Comia then read the messages of
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G.
Romulo, respectively.
A
Holy Mass then followed, celebrated by Fr. Luis Halasz, a Hungarian
priest who did missionary work in Sablayan,
Mindoro
for 40 years. Fr. Halasz, who
speaks Filipino fluently, celebrated the mass in Filipino. After
the Mass, the guests enjoyed the Filipino lunch prepeared by the Embassy.
A short program followed after lunch with
Filipino community members performing folk and modern dances, songs, and a
demonstration of arnis de mano by the
members of the Hungarian Doce Pares
Eskrima Club.
On 12 June, the Embassy hosted a reception for the Diplomatic Corps,
Hungarian government officials, and business executives at the Novotel Budapest.
Around 100 officials, diplomats,
private sector representatives and businessmen attended the event. END
