June 2007 — Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Teresita V. G. Barsana, reported
to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy commemorated the 146th
birth anniversary of the
Members
of the Academia Internacional de Cultura
of
“The
film showing was not only an occasion to mark our national hero’s birth but
also an opportunity to bring Dr. Rizal’s life and heroism to the consciousness
of the Brazilian public,” Ambassador Barsana said.
The
movie, released in 1998, received good reviews from the audience, most of whom
have neither heard of Dr. Rizal before nor read about the Filipinos’ struggle
for freedom. The movie ended with a standing ovation and cheers of approval from
the viewers.
“The enthusiastic response of those who attended the screening is proof that our hero’s struggle for freedom is a story worth sharing with other peoples,” Ambassador Barsana concluded.
