in Commemorating Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

June 2007 — Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Edgardo B. Espiritu
reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy joined the Order
of the Knights of Rizal (KOR), London Chapter, in commemorating the birthday of
Dr. Jose P. Rizal on Sunday, 17 June, at the Chalk Farm Library at the Camden
District of London.
The
library is located just around the corner from the house where Rizal stayed
during his stay in
The
affair started with the laying of a wreath at the bust of Rizal located inside
the library. The Chapter Commander, Mr. Alfonso Taguiang, KCR, and First
Secretary Francisco Noel Fernandez of the Embassy, delivered short remarks
reflecting on the life of the National Hero.
The
wives of the members present sang Freddie Aguilar's Bayan Ko
after a short speech and a reading of one of Rizal's poem by
representatives of the Filipino youth community in
The KOR recently reorganized itself after a hiatus of about eight months. The Knights have indicated that they intend to renew their education campaign among the second-generation Filipinos and British-Filipinos on the life and works of Rizal. It is expected that more activities celebrating the national hero would be taking place through the cooperation of the Embassy and the KOR.
