Philippine Embassy, Athens conducts Consular Services in Cyprus

15 March 2005 – Philippine Ambassador to Greece Rigoberto D. Tiglao, who has jurisdiction over Cyprus, reported to the Department that the Embassy conducted consular services on 9-11 March 2007 at the Saint Joseph Social Center in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The consular services included 241 issued passports, 35 notarial services and provided counseling and other services such as documentation for marriage, registration of children, travel document, dual citizenship, NBI clearances.

The consular team headed by Consul General Eleanor L. Jaucian also conducted a dialogue with the Filipino community in Nicosia to discuss concerns regarding labor problems and other issues, particularly the immigration policy in Cyprus and welfare problems facing OFWs. Atty. Jaime Giraenez, Labor Attaché-designate for Cyprus , was introduced to the community.

Ambassador Tiglao said that the Consular mission is part of the Embassy's Consular Outreach Program for Cyprus .  “The Consular Mission is aimed at providing consular and other services to Filipinos who could not travel to the Embassy in Athens ,” he stated.  “Courier services for passport renewals and other documentary requirements processed by the Embassy are very expensive for OFWs in Cyprus .”

The consular team included Embassy officers and staff members Mrs. Reneli D. Martinez, Mrs. Analydia A. Turiano and Mr. Byron B. Villanueva, together with Labor Attaché for Athens Atty. George A. Eduvala, Labor Attaché-designate for Cyprus Atty. Jaime P. Giraenez, Welfare Officer Jocelyn O. Hapal and Pag-ibig Representative Ms. Jean Santos.

Additional assistance were given by volunteers from the Filipino community in Cyprus, particularly Emma V. Pedroso, Primrose Lomas, Maritess Caligtan, Elizabeth Fernandez, Anna Salvacion, Marlyn Panaguitan, Lissa Jataas, Maryann Tabasa and Carmen Dolores Llauderes. END
