OF UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT

– Philippine Permanent Representative to UN in Geneva Enrique A. Manalo
reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Mr. Miguel R. Bautista, Head
of the Economic and Environmental Affairs Section of the Philippine Mission to
the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, was elected
Vice Chairman of the 11th Session of the Commission on Investment,
Technology and Related Financial Issues of the United Nations Conference on
Trade and Development (UNCTAD) at its inaugural session.
The session
of the Commission, which ran from 8 to 14 March 2007, considered policy issues
related to investment and development, and the development implications of
international investment agreements. Other
matters discussed were the Investment Policy Reviews (IPRs) of
UNCTAD is the
focal point in the United Nations system for the integrated treatment of trade
and development and interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology,
investment and sustainable development. UNCTAD’s commissions consider the
outputs of the organization’s various technical meetings with a view to
presenting policy implications and options for the consideration of UNCTAD’s
governing body, the Trade and Development Board.
Mr. Bautista has chaired several meetings at UNCTAD. He is currently Vice President of the Trade and Development Board. END
