RAMON MAGSAYSAY FOUNDATION STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITION SUCCESSFUL IN INDIA  

19 March 2007 – Philippine Ambassador to India Laura Q. Del Rosario reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the awarding ceremony of the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation Student Essay Competition in India was featured in the 13 March 2007 issue of “The Indian Express.”  

On 12 March 2007, Ambassador Del Rosario announced the top ten entries of the Essay Competition in a simple awarding ceremony at the Ambassador’s Official Residence in New Delhi . Attendees were students, college officials and major company sponsors.  

Participants, which included students from St. Stephens College , Lady Shri Ram College , Hindu College and Amity College , were required to write a 500-1,000-word essay about “The Magsaysay Awardee who inspired me most.”  

The top prize went to Ms. Aliya Hamid for her essay “Lessons from Asma Jahangir: Rethinking Commitment and Learning to See,” which talked about a human rights activist and lawyer from Pakistan who spent most of her career defending the rights of women, religious minorities and children in Pakistan.  

More than just a writing exercise, the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation Student Essay Competition in India is a way to inspire the youth in applying talents and energies to selfless and innovative service. END
