PHILIPPINE EMBASSY, KUALA LUMPUR CONCLUDES COUNTING OF BALLOTS
 AND CANVASSING OF
ELECTION RETURNS ON 15 MAY 2007  

18 May 2007 — Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano M. Lecaros reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy in Kuala Lumpur concluded the counting of ballots and the canvassing of election returns for the 2007 Senatorial and Party-List Elections on 15 May 2007 at 11:55 pm.   

The members of the Special Board of Canvassers (SBOC) convened at the Embassy on the same day at 5:45 pm to start the canvassing of election returns submitted by its Special Board of Elections Inspectors (SBEI) 2.  The Embassy’s SBEI 1 submitted its election returns to the SBOC at 10:00 pm on the same day.   

At 11:45 pm on 15 May 2007, Minister and Consul General and SBOC Chairman Atty. Antonio A. Morales announced the results of the canvassing of election returns from the two precincts in Kuala Lumpur .  He said that the conduct of overseas absentee voting in Malaysia was peaceful and orderly.  The other members of Post’s SBOC are Labor Attaché Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez, as Vice-Chairman, and Attaché Gangco T. Punginaguina, as Member-Secretary.   

SBOC Chairman Morales has left Kuala Lumpur for Manila to personally bring to the COMELEC the copies of the Certificate of Canvass and the SBEI’s election returns.  

“The Embassy received, both by mail and by personal delivery, a total of 1,235 ballots at the end of the polls on 14 May 2007.  However, only 1,032 ballots were finally counted and canvassed.  The rest of the ballots were found to be either invalid or spoiled,” Ambassador Lecaros said.  

The members of Post’s two SBEIs that conducted the counting of ballots are:  SBEI 1 – Third Secretary and Vice Consul Atty. Shirlene C. Mananquil, Chairman; Attaché Filipina C. Galicia, Member-Secretary; and Consular Assistant Shirley B. Vergara, Poll Clerk; SBEI 2 – First Secretary and Consul Anne J. Louis, Chairman; Attaché Jose Juancho A. Perez, Poll Clerk; and Collecting Officer Elcar A. Villaflores, Member-Secretary.   

The Embassy’s Special Ballot Reception and Custody Group (SBRCG) comprised the following: Attaché Virgilio J. Pasive Jr., Chairman; Attaché Rustico S. Velando, Vice-Chairman; and Mr. Jerico N. Redito, Member.  END
