Undersecretary Conejos reports to vice President

de Castro on Lebanon Situation

 

24 May 2007 — Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban B. Conejos, Jr. has reported to Vice President Noli de Castro, Chairman of Task Force Lebanon , on the current political and security situation in Lebanon and of the Filipinos in that country.

In the briefing for the Vice President, Undersecretary Conejos said, “The current situation in Lebanon continues to be of concern to the Philippine Government, and the Government continues to monitor the welfare of Filipinos in Lebanon .”

The Undersecretary added, “As the current ceasefire between Lebanese armed forces and militants in northern Lebanon holds, the Philippine Government is not, at this time, taking steps to evacuate Filipinos from Lebanon.  The Government, however, is prepared for any eventuality.”

Undersecretary Conejos also reiterated that the restrictions on the deployment of Filipinos to Lebanon remains.  END
