Philippine Embassy , Singapore to launch ‘Philippine Art Trek’  

30 May 2007 — Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Belen F. Anota reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Embassy, in cooperation with participating galleries, will stage ‘Philippine Art Trek’ in June, perhaps the largest multiple commercial exhibition of Philippine art in Singapore .

“Philippine art is arriving in Singapore in a major way this June when works by more than 50 Filipino artists will be showcased in eight exhibitions in eight different art venues as part of the month-long celebration of the 109th Anniversary of Philippine Independence,” Ambassador Anota said.

She reported that top Singapore galle ries Sunjin Ga llery , Ut terly Art, Art Forum, Art Space, Momentous Arts, the ARTrium, and the newly opened Galerie Joaquin are taking part in the Art Trek that will feature today’s finest artists from the Philippines .

“On exhibit will be works by top Filipino modernists H. R. Ocampo, Ang Kiukok (Art Forum), Arturo Luz and Benedicto ‘Bencab’ Cabrera (Art Space), upcoming artists Jeho Bitancor (Utterly Art), Fred Ramirez and Herzon de la Rosa (Sunjin Gallery), and Jerry Morada and Vincent de Pio (Galerie Joaquin).  Also on display will be paintings by six Filipino illustrators and graphic artists of The Straits Times led by multi-awarded Dengcoy Miel, Ludwig Ilio, Pau l Eric Roca and Ben Cruz in their debut group exhibition ‘ Art Bridge s’ at the SMU Gallery,” Ambassador Anota stated.

Manuel D. Baldemor, a prolific and multi-faceted artist, will have a major solo painting exhibit called ‘Windows,’ which captures his impressions of Singapore and the many other places he has visited around the world.  The exhibit will be at the ARTrium of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) Building which in itself – with its 911 timbers and shutter windows painted in rainbow hues – served as inspiration to the artist for his most recent works.  Dr. Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts will be the Guest-of-Honor at the opening of Mr. Baldemor’s show as well as the launch of the Art Trek on 1 June 2007.

The Philippines ’ finest printmakers, led by Virgilio Aviado, Fil de la Cruz, Ambie Abano, Raul Isidro and 9 other members of the Printmakers Association of the Philippines will also exhibit their original prints at Momentous Arts Gallery in their show ‘Contemporary Print Philippines.’

“The Philippine Art Trek is a major art event in Singapore not to be missed. It promises to be a journey of discovery and exploration of the Filipino imagination in the form of paintings and prints,” Ambassador Anota remarked.  END
