06 November 2007 –   Ambassador Cristina Ortega paid a courtesy call on Mr. Jean-Pierre Hansen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Suez-Tractebel SA, to express appreciation on the company’s recent investments in Calaca powerplant. Suez-Tractebel is the number one energy producer and one of the world’s top independent power producers with operations in more than 100 countries in five continents.

Ambassador Ortega reiterated that the recent Belgian investment will play a major role in boosting the power and energy industry in the Philippines which is one of the government’s priorities.  In addition, the establishment would be able to influence the future of the Philippine energy sector, in particular the development of coal and geothermal energy, and pave the way for other Belgian companies to invest in the Philippines.

Mr. Hansen was pleased with the acquisition of Calaca powerplant, being the company’s first foothold in the energy sector, and assured the Madame Ambassador that Suez-Tractebel would be actively supporting the Philippine energy sector through its investments. He also hoped that it would provide a solid base for further development of a diversified portfolio.
