PHILIPPINE EMBASSY OFFICIALS VISIT FILIPINO COMMUNITIES IN MALAYSIA

 

15 November 2007—Philippine Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur Victoriano M. Lecaros reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that officials of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur traveled outside the capital and visited Filipino Communities in Malaysia as part of the Embassy’s intensified campaign on consular, labor, and welfare services and to reach out to overseas Filipinos in Malaysia. 

On 11 November 2007, Ambassador Victoriano M. Lecaros met with the members of the newly-formed Kuantan Filipino Community (KFC) in the State of Pahang, about four (4) hours drive from Kuala Lumpur.  During their meeting, Ambassador Lecaros conveyed to the members of the KFC of the Embassy’s efforts to overseas Filipinos.  The group, which was formed only two months ago, has fifty (50) members.  The State of Pahang is home to around 500 OFWs comprising skilled, plantation, and domestic workers.Text Box: Ambassador Victoriano M.  On 3 November 2007, Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez, Labor Attaché, visited the KFC and discussed with them labor-related matters.  On 13 October 2007, Ms. Ma. Lourdes V. Reyes, OWWA Officer & Attaché, also visited the KFC and discussed OWWA membership and related programs for overseas Filipino workers and their families. 

On 21 October 2007, Atty. Jimenez met the members of the Johor Overseas Filipino Association (JOFA) in Johor Bahru, bordering Singapore and about five (5) hours drive from Kuala Lumpur.  Founded on 07 July 2007, JOFA serves as link between the overseas Filipinos in Johor Bahru and the Embassy.  There are now about thirty (30) Filipino associations inText Box: The members of the Kuantan Filipino Community (KFC) pose with Ambassador Victoriano M.
