ROMULO, MATSUURA RENEW RP-UNESCO PARTNERSHIP FOR GREATER PEACE, DEVELOPMENT
21 October 2007 PARIS – Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo and UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura renew the Philippines and UNESCO’s partnership for greater peace and fuller development during a meeting at the sidelines of the 34th session of the UNESCO General Conference here. During the meeting, Director General Matsuura lauded the Philippines for its key role in the shared pursuit of greater peace, progress and prosperity, citing several initiatives that are “very good” and “very important.” Director General Matsuura was referring to the Philippines’ advocacy of interfaith dialogue as an object and strategy towards understanding between peoples and achieving peace, the debt-for-development initiative and for the proposal to host the Centre for Lifelong Learning for Education for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia. Secretary Romulo stressed the Philippines’ commitment to work closely with UNESCO and partner nations in pursuit of broader and fuller development of the human person.
