ROMULO ADDRESSES 34TH SESSION OF UNESCO GENERAL CONFERENCE,            19 OCTOBER 2007

 

 

26 October 2007–Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo addresses the 34th Session of UNESCO General Conference, reaffirming the importance of the UNESCO in the achievement of greater peace and development of the human person and underscoring the Philippines’ commitment to work closely with UNESCO and partner countries in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In his address, Secretary Romulo urged all 193 members of the UNESCO to “be the change we seek” and prepare UNESCO for the next 60 years as a more relevant and more responsive organization.  Secretary Romulo highlighted Philippine achievements in achieving MDGs, particularly in reducing the incidence of extreme poverty from 20.4% in 1990 to 10.2% in 2006.
