PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN AMMAN JOINS ANNUAL DIPLOMATIC BAZAAR

31 October 2007 – The Philippine Embassy joined the annual diplomatic Bazaar held in Amman on 27 October 2007. The event was sponsored by Princess Basma Bint Talal to raise funds for the Mabarrat Um Al Hussein Orphanage, home for orphaned and underprivileged boys.

According to bazaar coordinator, Mireille Abu Jaber, the event continues to gain momentum because it is an excellent way for the Embassies in Amman to showcase their countries’ culture.

Thousands flocked to the Sports City to view and buy products on sale, ranging from traditional handicrafts, clothing, electronic goods, toys and food.

The best-selling items from the Philippines were the ecological home décor of dried leaves, stalks, flowers, fronds, bamboo, and coconut palms. A lady buyer was impressed with  Philippine eco-friendly products. An Embassy staff noted that the venue began to look like Palm Sunday with hundreds of people carrying palms and fronds bought from the Philippine booth.

Ambassador Jose Del Rosario welcomed Her Royal Highness when she visited the Philippine booth, and watched buyers create home bouquets who interacted with the Embassy staff. It established rapport for the Jordanians and the Embassy staff. END.
