21 September
2007 – The Department of Foreign Affairs reiterates its advisory to all
Filipinos who are traveling to
Europe
on package tours to ensure that their travel agencies/operators are
well-informed on tourist/transit visa regulations within the European Union.
The
Philippine Embassy in
Budapest
emphasizes that Filipinos in possession of a Schengen visa does not entitle the
holder to travel to
Hungary
,
Poland
,
Czech
Republic
, and
Slovakia
. Although these are all EU members,
they have not joined the Schengen visa system.
Filipinos traveling to these countries must have the appropriate visas.
Visas are
also required when traveling to or transiting through non-EU countries:
Croatia
,
Serbia
, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Eastern Europe
is a popular tourist destination, particularly for Filipinos joining pilgrimage
tours. Filipinos are requested to
obtain information regarding visas from the consulates/embassies of the
countries they will visit. END
