FOR THE ASEAN SCHOOLS TOUR

WHAT        :        Visit of ASEAN Secretary General Ong Keng Yong for the ASEAN School Tours

WHERE     :        Tanauan City , Batangas

ASEAN Secretary General Ong Keng Yong will visit Tanauan City in Batangas on 12 October 2007 for the ASEAN Schools Tour.

The ASEAN Schools Tour is a project of the ASEAN Secretariat intended to acquaint more than 4,000 students across the region with ASEAN when the tour makes a stop in their home cities between June and December 2007.

During the stops, the Secretary General and government officials of the ASEAN member countries interact with students ages 12 to 16 and engage them through various activities focused on ASEAN such as quizzes, writing and art contests.

The Philippines will be the ninth stop of the ASEAN Schools Tour since its launch in mid-June this year.  Previous stops include Phuket , Thailand ; Siem Reap , Cambodia ; Bandar Seri Begawan , Brunei ; Vientiane , Lao PDR; Penang , Malaysia ; Singapore ; Makassar , Indonesia ; and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam .

On 12 October 2007, the Secretary General, DFA officials and representatives of the ASEAN embassies in Manila will meet with 500 students from the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) and other schools in Tanauan at the FAITH campus.

The program for the Schools Tour will include a screening of a film on ASEAN, an open forum, a cultural presentation, and a tour of the campus by the guests.  The Secretary General will also present awards to the winners of the various ASEAN-focused contests in the schools in Tanauan.  END
