September 2007 – The Philippine Consulate General in
Chicago
reported to the Department of
Foreign Affairs that the Consulate together with the Department of Tourism
(DOT) Office in
Chicago
, participated in the WORLDFEST 2007 held at the
Peoria
Civic
Center
on 15 September 2007.
WORLDFEST
2007 is a celebration of diversity that features cultural display, ethnic
cuisine, world market bazaar and live entertainment by participating
countries from the
Americas
, Asia, Europe and
Africa
.
Mayor
Jim Ardis of
Peoria
led the parade and the opening ceremony. Thereafter, Consul General
Blesila Cabrera invited the Mayor to visit the Philippine booth. Mayor
Ardis was impressed by Filipino artistry and the variety of products on
display at the booth. The Consul General presented to Mayor Ardis an
information packet on the
Philippines
. The Mayor was also invited to visit the
Philippines
. The Mayor of Peoria commented that he is proud and honored of the
presence of the Filipino community in
Peoria
.
The
DOT Office in
Chicago
was responsible for setting up the popular Philippine booth. The DOT
Office provided colorful brochures and pamphlets, and lured guests to make
the
Philippines
their travel destination. The guests savored and enjoyed Philippine dishes
as well. The cultural presentation prepared by a local cultural group was
very well admired by the viewing public. END.
