A FILIPINO LEADS ASEAN FOUNDATION

28 September 2007—The Board of Trustees of the ASEAN Foundation selected Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte, Jr. as its new Executive Director on 19 September 2007. Mr. Uriarte was selected over a hundred other applicants from ASEAN member countries for the post.

Dr. Uriarte brings a wealth of experience to the position. Prior to his selection, Dr. Uriarte served as Chair and Executive Officer of LAUDS Technologies, Inc., which promotes and markets new technologies in the areas of waste management and resource recovery, energy management, and conservation.

Mr. Uriarte has also been identified with numerous international organizations, and held various positions in the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). In addition, he was previously connected with the ASEAN Secretariat, having been the Director of the Bureau of Science and Technology from 1986 to1989.

He also occupied the position of Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from February 1999 to December 2000. He is a lifetime member of the National Academy of Science and Technology. END
