MMDA OFFICIALS AND METRO MANILA MAYORS ON STUDY TOUR OF BRAZIL’S URBAN TRANSPORT INTEGRATION SYSTEM

 

 

14 April 2008 - Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman, Metro Manila Mayors and Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) officials participated in the study program of the World-Bank assisted Metro Manila Urban Transport Integration Project (MMURTRIP) that took them to Colombia and Brazil from 01 to 12 April.  Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Teresita Barsana joined the Philippine delegation in Curitiba where they visited the Jaime Lerner Institute for a briefing on the Bus Rapid Transit System, the Urbanizagão de Curitiba (URBS), and Insituto de Pesquisa e Planejamento Urbano de Curitiba (IPPUC) for meetings on transport and urban planning; and on site inspections of bus terminals.

 

In February 2008, Marikina Mayor Maria Lourdes Fernando and La Union Mayor Mary Jane Ortega presented papers on best practices at the World Conference on Development of Cities organized by the City of Porto Alegre in Brazilīs southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, with the support of the UNESCO and UN-HABITAT.
