SECRETARY ROMULO CALLS ON IRANIAN PRESIDENT

15 April 2008—Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received today Foreign Secretary Alberto G. Romulo at the Presidential Office on the occasion of the latter’s official visit to Iran. In their meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Iran and ways to enhance and strengthen such ties. They also exchanged views on important regional and international issues and concern.
On the eve of the Shanghai meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the UN Security Council plus Germany to be hosted by China, President Ahmadinejad assured Secretary Romulo that as a signatory to the 1968 Non Proliferation Treaty, Iran would abide by the principles enshrined in the said Treaty.
