RP BAGS TOP PRIZES IN REGIONAL SCHOOLS INTERNET PROJECT

22 April 2008 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that two teams from the Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School (MPGCHS) won two of four top awards in the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Regional Schools Internet Project for 2007.

 

The contest ran for six months in 2007, and was composed of two rounds running for three months each. One team from the MPGCHS shared top honors in round 1 with the Bartley Secondary School of Singapore, while the other MPGCHS team shared top honors in round 2 with the Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Betganwa Sultan School from Brunei Darussalam.

 

Team 3 of MPGCHS won for their blog which dealt with the subject “Best Places in the Philippines,” while Team 1 of MPGCHS won with their blog entitled “What are the Three Things You Would Call Your Country Unique?” 

 

The Malaysian Minister of Education and SEAMEO Council President Hishammudin Tun Huseein handed the notice of award to Philippine Charge d’Affaires to Singapore Maria Lumen Isleta at the 43rd SEAMEO-Regional Language Center (RELC) International Seminar held in Singapore on 21 April 2008.

 

Entries to the annual best blog contest were judged on the basis of content, presentation, language, and the quality of comments and discussion contributed and received. Audio and video components, texts and graphics were allowed in the blogs. The award for each winning blog is S$1,000.00 (US$715.00) cash award which is to be forwarded directly to the school.

 

The contest is open to SEAMEO member countries namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste amd Vietnam. Associate members are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, and Spain. END.
