ROME OFW’s CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 |

25 April 2008 - The Filipino Chess Federation in Italy (FCFI) staged the “Battle of Champions 2008” last 20 April at the Social Hall of the Philippine Embassy in Rome. The tournament was the final round participated in by monthly champions since March 2007 composed of Overseas Filipinos in Italy headed by Philippine FIDE Master Virgilio Vuelban, who is based in Rome.
The “Grand Champion of 2008” is Mr. J. Zamora with runner ups Mr. Nick Calbay (1st placer), Ben Dumlao (2nd placer) and Mr. R. Manzanilla (3rd placer), respectively. The winners were given trophies and cash prizes courtesy of Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier and other sponsors of the tournament. The FCFI is a duly affiliated club of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines organized to promote and showcase chess among Overseas Filipinos in Italy. The FCFI was the brainchild of Amb. Lhuilllier to harness and develop chess talents among Overseas Filipino Workers based in Europe, where World Chess Championships are often held. END
