ATENEO GERMAN LANGUAGE STUDY GROUP VISITS BERLIN

25 April 2008 - The German language study group from the Ateneo de Manila University visited Berlin recently as part of its three-week study tour of Germany to improve their working knowledge of the German language and immerse in German life and culture.  The group will also visit Hamburg.

In both cities, the study group will attend 5 hours of German language course everyday in the morning and will visit museums and other cultural venues in the afternoon.  In the weekends, they will visit the city of Potsdam, the island resort of Sylt along the Northsea, and the national park in the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein in the northern part of Germany.  As part of their cultural immersion, the Ateneo students will be living with German foster families.

The language and cultural program in Germany was made possible in cooperation with InWent (Capacity Building International Germany), a merger of Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft and Deutsche Stiftung für internationale Entwicklung (German Foundation for International Development).  The group was led by Ms. Christa Velasco, Chair of the Department of Modern Languages, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights.  She was accompanied by eleven (11) students during the trip.

The Ateneans who joined the study group are:  Mark Gerard Blanco, Tomothy Clark Dauz, Monique Janelle Estrada, Christa Concepcion Gualberto, Allan Vincent Lao, Kris Jefferson Lao, Martin Antonio Lozano, Hazel Joan Que, Kristina Relampagos, Michael Martin San Pablo, and Anne Pauline Tsang.

Last year, an initial group of 32 Ateneo students paved the way for this new language and cultural program of the Ateneo. END
