FILIPINO FILM SHOWING IN BRUNEI |
|
13 February 2008 – Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Virginia Benavidez is inviting members of the Filipino community to a monthly film showing concerning the lives of Filipinos abroad, Filipino families and other related themes, to be held at the Embassy Chancery on Sunday afternoons.
In partnership with the Embassy, the Filipino associations and groups in charge of the film showing for the month will take the lead in selecting a movie which is relevant to the lives and experiences of overseas Filipinos, and the sacrifices and contributions they make for their families, community and country.
The film showing project, which was launched in January, aims to provide wholesome entertainment, highlight Filipino culture and values, and facilitate interaction among Filipino workers through sharing of lessons learned from the film.
The Muslim Filipino Overseas Workers Group facilitated the showing of “Anak”, the multi-awarded movie, which portrayed the sacrifices and struggles of a mother working abroad and the restoration of her relationship with her children. It moved the Filipino audience and elicited comments and advice from the Filipino workers themselves.
“Katas ng Saudi” will be shown on 17 February, with the sponsorship of the Filipino Basketball Association. “This promises to be another relaxing afternoon of togetherness and fellowship with the Filipino community and an opportunity for us to give our workers that much welcome break and pause from their daily work through the excellent portrayal of their roles, responsibilities and experiences by well-known Filipino actors and actresses,” Ambassador Benavidez stated.
The project also seeks to further strengthen the linkage between the Embassy and the Filipino community and facilitate information on prevailing laws, rules and regulations affecting Filipino workers and residents in Brunei Darussalam. END.
