PHILIPPINE HISTORY IN BAS RELIEF EXHIBIT OPENS

AT THE PHILIPPINE CENTER IN SAN FRANCISCO

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

22 February 2008 – Philippine Consul General to San Francisco Marciano A. Paynor, Jr. reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Philippine Folklife Museum Foundation formally opened its exhibit titled KASAYSAYAN: Philippine History in Bas Relief at the Rizal Room of the Philippine Center on 15 February.

 

The Bas Relief exhibit features the works of world-renowned folk artist and sculptor Mr. Luis Ac-Ac of Paete, Laguna. It consists of 15 individual pieces of art work depicting various significant historical events and places in the Philippines.

 

At the reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the exhibit, Consul General Paynor expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Philippine Folklife Museum Foundation in bringing the artwork to San Francisco for the benefit of the Filipino American community. “The exhibit will provide an opportunity for Filipino Americans in the Bay Area, most specially the young generation, to have a glimpse at both the artistic prowess of Filipino artists and at the historical events that shaped the destiny of the motherland”, he adds.

 

Consul General Paynor also stressed that the Consulate is committed to enhancing and broadening its cooperation with the foundation with a view to instilling a sense of pride among Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the Bay Area of the motherland’s glorious history and the gallantry and bravery of Filipino heroes.

 

Also present at the launching ceremony were leaders of the Filipino American community and elected Filipino American officials.

 

The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours. The Rizal Room is located at the 6th floor of the Philippine Center in San Francisco. END.
